Using shipping methods that don't support a delivery date

This page is for stores that have a shipping method that can't take a delivery date or time, such as a mail-delivery service.

Blocking is available on the Pro and Plus plans. On the Basic plan, checkout isn't blocked even if a registered shipping method is chosen (the order goes through).

What the app does

If you add shipping method names one by one under "Shipping methods without delivery dates" in Delivery settings, you can decide in the same section what happens when a customer who chose a delivery date picks one of those methods at checkout.

  • Show an error and block checkout: Checkout shows an error and asks the customer to pick another shipping method, or to remove the delivery date in the cart. You can change the error message for Japanese and English under "Error message shown to customers" in the same section (leave blank to use the default).
  • Accept the order as is: The order can be completed. The order keeps both the delivery date the customer entered and the shipping method they chose.

The app doesn't change orders. If you choose "Accept the order as is", telling customers and staff that the requested date can't be met is up to your store's settings.

Tell customers (shipping method description)

A shipping method at checkout can show a description under its name. Use it to say that the delivery date won't apply.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings > Shipping and delivery.
  2. Open the shipping profile, then edit the rate (for example, your mail-delivery rate) in the shipping zone.
  3. In the description field, say that the delivery date won't apply (see the example below), and save.
  4. Open checkout and confirm that the description appears under the shipping method.

Example description:

A delivery date can't be requested with this shipping method.

If your rates are calculated by a carrier or another app, set the description there.

Help staff notice

Orders with a delivery date have 配送日の指定: あり in the order's Additional details. Before shipping, compare Additional details with the shipping method.

If your store can use Shopify Flow, create a workflow that tags orders whose "Additional details" include 配送日の指定: あり, so you can filter the order list.

Good to know

  • Register the shipping method name exactly as it appears at checkout. If you rename a shipping method, update the app's settings too.
  • Until a shipping method is selected, the app doesn't treat it as a mismatch.
